ACTIVITIES FOR SENIORS
CFHI has always given a special place to the seniors of Rivière-des-Prairies. That said, activities aimed at breaking the isolation of these people have long been part of the organization’s service offering. Conferences, café-rencontres, cooking and nutrition workshops, physical activities (dance, zumba, etc.) and technological support workshops are offered to the seniors who frequent the organization. These activities are all designed to break down isolation, combat loneliness and encourage healthy lifestyle habits.
Thanks to the organization’s recurring activities and the “Ensemble, on est fort” and “Nouveau souffle” projects carried out as part of the New Horizons for Seniors Program, CFHI has been able to maintain its ties with its senior members. During the lockdown, the organization gave them several electronic tablets and the necessary support so that they could maintain a privileged link with the organization and participate in virtual activities. Recipe cards and ingredients were delivered to their homes for group cooking via the zoom platform. The organization was the first to propose this way of breaking seniors’ isolation during confinement (popoter/cuisiner via zoom). That said, the project has been a great success in the Rivière-des-Prairies borough.
